Artist Statement
My work examines my individual daily observations expressed through illustrated, whimsical depictions. I use handwritten text, as a nod to auditory observations and to fuse together the image and the immediate moment. My handwriting, loose linework, and saturated colors juxtapose an exaggerated brightness of daily occurrences and an underlying dry commentary of self-deprecation and subtle doubt.
The subject of my illustrations capture ordinary moments witnessed, as well as imagined depictions of my inner monologue and commentary. I use uninhibited wit to create an expressive, colorful world where the line is blurred between captured moments and imagined dialogue. This further examines the fleeting nature of a moment and the lens through which we encounter and narrate our experiences.
